The mission of God is a holistic work of redemption that includes meeting people in their suffering, proclaiming the kingdom of God, and working to address the brokenness in communities, systems, and institutions. The Master of Arts in Theology, Justice, and Social Advocacy will prepare students to participate in this holistic mission by equipping them with: the biblical and theological foundations of justice practice in transformative cultural analysis competencies in Christian advocacy and community development skills in non-profit leadership. The master of arts with a major in Old Testament provides you with the necessary competence in the Hebrew of the Old Testament and an introduction to biblical Greek, hermeneutics, exegesis, history, culture, theology, critical research, global concerns, and key cognate languages. In addition, you will develop your own exegetical skills as you study texts in their original language and move beyond elementary Hebrew. This degree will prepare students for faithful ministry and help you gain expertise to teach and write in a variety of church and adult education contexts. Our Master of Arts in Christian Studies degree provides flexible, practical, student-centered program grounded in the Bible and theology. The landscape of ministry is more expansive than ever and needs leaders who are empowered spiritually, intellectually, and professionally. The MA in Christian Studies graduates will develop biblical, historical and theological literacy applicable to current ministry needs within their area of influence. The customizable coursework in this degree program prepares students for changing vocational opportunities. Graduates are prepared to envision, design, implement, and lead ministries where their personal passions, gifts, experiences, and training are fully utilized in meeting the needs of the world. With the MA with a major in Christian studies you get the same core of biblical and theological knowledge that you find in our other programs, but with the greatest number of open elective credit hours of any major we offer. That flexibility means you can sample a variety of subjects—Old and New Testament studies, church history, systematic theology, and philosophy of religion, as well as leadership and evangelism courses—or focus in on just one or two fields of study. In your capstone experience, you will build on your coursework with either a major ministry research project or a thesis.

Within the Master of Arts degree program and the major in spiritual formation, students enter into a community of learners who are on an intentional journey of whole-life transformation that is personal, communal, and missional. The Master of Arts in spiritual formation degree is a theologically rich, historically rooted, and contemplatively engaged approach to apprenticeship to Jesus as the essence of life. It focuses on developing Christlikeness so that students become better spouses, friends, parents, as well as more effective ministry leaders. Through emphasis on personal transformation, communal aspects, and missional focus, students learn how to develop a growing self-awareness, appropriate vulnerability, and a deepening listening presence. The summative course in the program is an internship experience through which students engage in hands-on spiritual formation ministry of a seasoned ministry leader. This degree partners with the Denver Seminary Soul Care Initiative, which provides opportunities for retreats, spiritual direction, and engagement with leaders in the field of spiritual formation.

The Master of Arts in Pastoral Care provides high quality training in counseling with the well-rounded biblical and theological foundations. This degree is designed to prepare students to be capable counselors who are able to integrate their Christian faith with competent pastoral care and counseling abilities. Students find themselves employed in numerous church, parachurch, and ministry positions where pastoral care and counseling skills are utilized. For some faith groups, this degree may suffice for ordination. Collectively, this degree prepares you to offer wise, biblically-informed guidance and counsel in settings other than licensed, professional therapy.
